5 ways to sharpen your mind for the IQ test
Number sequences, letter patterns and odd-one-out puzzles: how to get better at them, one round at a time.
Most IQ-style puzzles test the same few skills: spotting a pattern, holding numbers in your head and ignoring the obvious wrong answer.
1. Say the rule out loud
In a sequence like 2, 4, 8, 16, name the step: times two. Naming it makes the next number obvious.
2. Check the differences
When the numbers do not multiply, write down the gaps between them. The gaps often make their own pattern.

Sequences, patterns and logic in one fantastic challenge. At the end, your estimated IQ, just for fun, of course!
Start the test3. Count the corners
Shapes puzzles are often about corners, sides or symmetry.
4. Do the sum in order
Multiplication and division before addition: 12 ÷ 4 + 2 × 3 is 9, not 15.
5. Play a little every day
Two quick rounds a day beat one long session. Our IQ test is just for fun, but practice really does make patterns easier to see.
